We had previously published many useful tips on Increasing Apple iPhone Battery Life, Laptop Battery Life and optimizing battery usage. In this article we are going give you some basic tips which when implemented would give you a better battery backup on the device.

Disable wi-fi : Its recommended that you should disable your wifi option to connect to the Internet while you are not using this service because this would not only decrease use of internal battery but also the processing resources, hence overall increases the backup. The wifi adapter would normal stay connect to your known network whenever the ipad is ON and the service searches door new Ad-hoc connections when there is no connection established. Go to settings > wifi option and click on the off switch to turn this off.

  • Decrease Brightness : The iPad offers you with a very high brightness option which would make it even display anything while you are in bright light or else in a total low power area. By default the settings would make the iPad to run at 50% of the full brightness, which you can reduce by visiting the settings > Brightness & wallpapers option. Next you can reduce the brightness to almost zero which would still display everything on a very low or dim light. This kind of display is still ok when you are listening to music or reading some ebooks because this would not really need any high brightness. You can also select the Auto-Brightness option which would automatically configure the brightness based on the external light.

  • Kill background Applications : The iPad now supports multiple applications which would run the background while you have closed them. Some of the examples of these would include the Music playing via iPod, email synchronization via Mail which would automatically update your email accounts every few intervals, Instant Messenger applications which would send you Push Notifications etc. All of these different types of applications would give you best notifications, updated etc but sometimes when you are on low battery its recommended to disable all of these and this is when we need to make use of the Free Memory Application which would kill all the apps right away in the Game Mode freeing all the memory and shutting down the applications which are running the background.

  • Disable sounds : By default the ipad comes with all the sounds options Enabled which means that if you receive a new Message or a new Notification you will hear a sound, also if you press any button using the On-Screen Keyboard you will hear some sound which is a sound feature and its recommended to disable most of these. You will find five different options to Increase/Decrease or switch to On/Off based on your personal choice, though disabling all of these would decrease the battery usage.

  • Disable Location Services : The location services on your Apple iPad would allow the device to locate your location automatically and use the same wherever required. Its mainly used in the Maps application where you can find different locations or search places with distance from your current location. If you are connected to the Internet, the device will continuosly update your location and use a lot of battery life, hence disabling this would save a lot of the same.

  • Disable Push Notifications : Applications like IM+, Mails would send you Push Notifications when there is a new message, in the form of a small box on the screen. This would make the screen ON when there is a new update and again make it Off using some battery. If all these notifications are disabled when they are not in use, you would be saving up some of your battery life.
  • Increase Fetch Interval : Some of the iPad applications are developed in such a way that on regular intervals they would update the data. Some of the examples of this would be the Email Notifications or else RSS Readers data updates. By default this is set to once a hour, which some users would set to a lower time at around 15 minutes to get quicker alerts. Increasing the data fetching interval would make the device to update the data at large intervals and reduce the battery usage. Another option would be fetching manually which means that the update is only done when you want to by accessing the application. To set this up you need to choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Manually. In order to increase the fetch interval, visit the Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Hourly.
